XTREEM SS

Although you can't purchase the Xtreme S-10 from the factory just yet, Bobby Simpson decided to build his own. He started with an already potent base, the S-10 SS. From the factory, the innocent looking truck came with 195 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. In 1994, the Vortec engine was an option so a buyer had the choice between a VIN code "Z" motor or the awesome VIN code "W" motor with central port injection (CPI). Bobby bought the truck from the previous owner who used it for towing his boat around. The truck had a diamond tread toolbox and diamond tread bed rails along with a drop-in bedliner. All these items were quickly removed and the truck began its preparation phase as a sport truck. Bobby said he left the bugshield on because he knew a new hood was on the way later.

Then Bobby decided to jump onto the bolt-on bandwagon, in his own words, "Bolt-ons really helped this truck tremendously." He decided to take care of the engine before the exterior because we all love to see look on people's faces when an innocent-looking truck blows by. Some of Bobby's favorites are the unfortunate souls in "mustanks" and so-called "high-performance" imports (aka: rice burners). The truck has currently been dynoed right around 245 hp and 305 ft. lbs. of torque. Unfortunately 1/4-mile times at the track are mid 15's due to excessive tire spin off the line (only one wheel spinning). The truck is idle right now until after Bobby's recent marriage, but the modifications will soon begin their completion phase.

The intake received a K&N filtercharger hi-flow air-filter, while the exhaust was opened up with a custom 2.5-inch Y-pipe, custom 2.5-inch single aluminized exhaust, high-flow heavy-duty catalytic converter, Flowmaster 2-chamber performance muffler, and extended chrome echo-tip (hidden under vehicle) for enhanced exhaust note. The custom 2.5-inch Y-cutout is combined with an extended 2.5-inch pipe with a Hooker resonator tip. This gives the truck a hidden dual exhaust setup for the strip, as well as the street. Bobby says the exhaust note is somewhat of a cross between a "super comp" and a "super gas" drag car on acceleration but when cruising through the parking lots, it sounds like a big block. He has no trouble setting off hear-by car alrams with this setup, which he runs all the time. Additional performance modifications include custom cold-air induction ram-air setup that is hidden in the grill, Hypertech Stage II piggy-back performance chip, Hypertech thermomaster 160-thermostat, and Lakewood chrome traction bars.

Body modifications include GTO Custom blackout headlight covers, fog-lights, custom ZTE "Xtreme" decals, custom "SS" badging from GM, and "SS" badging from ZTE.

The plans for the future include an Auburn limited-slip differential, custom 2" drop in front and 3" drop in rear, cold-forged aluminum wheels, alarm and window tint, body-colored grill, and a 2-inch Cowl-induction hood or ram-air hood.
